After entering spring season, moist weather starts to appear in most parts of the country, so tea friends always discuss damp-proof problem of Pu’er tea in moist weather. Under this kind of weather, air humidity is large and Pu’er tea is easily affected with dampness and mildew, so “damp-proof” issue is especially important. Even superior Pu’er tea is affected with dampness and mildew, it will be worthless. Therefore, it’s urgent to prevent from moisture for Pu’er tea.

The friends living in the south may not feel surprised at the moist weather in spring season and cultivate rich “fighting experience” through combating with moist weather year after year.

How to identify if the tea is damp

Pinch a handful of tea with finger. If the tea is smashed, it’s slightly damp; if the tea breaks into pieces and becomes bulk or strip, it’s basically damp; if the tea is not smashed, but maintains original shape or hardly changes, it’s completely damp.?

How to prevent dampness for tea in moist weather

In the case of too mush moisture in tea, containing substances will gradually oxidize and get moldy, so it’s best to seal tea, keep out of sun and prevent from dampness. During moist weather with ubiquitous moisture, it’s essential to adopt different damp-proof methods for different tea to create “impenetrable defense” and “cocoon” for tea.

Store pried tea cake

Many tea friends get used to collecting Pu’er tea. Then how to keep damp-proof of tea being pried? It’s suggested to store in ceramic jar or iron box. Remove packaging of Pu’er tea to be drunk, use Pu’er tea knife to cut whole tea cake into tablet, wrap tea with Chinese art paper or tasteless and moisture-absorbing paper, then put in small ceramic jar and iron box for storage.?

Store whole canister of Pu’er tea

It should be rigorous to store whole tea cake and whole canister of Pu’er tea. Many friends are reluctant to drink the good tea and always store them for many years, so it should be careful to prevent from dampness and foreign odor. If they get moldy,?it will be a great pity not only because of the tea, but because of persistent passion for tea! Prepare some kraft papers without foreign odor, wrap the tea cake or whole canister of Pu’er tea with paper bag or whole piece of kraft paper. Put packaged tea in carton and seal, place the carton in dry and ventilated place without foreign odor. It’s better to store in purple-sand vat.

Store sealed whole piece in professional warehouse of Pu’er tea

When the fanciers of Pu’er tea collect whole piece of Pu’er tea, it’s crucial to keep damp-proof and moisture-proof, dehumidify properly, keep away from floor and wall, close windows timely. It’s better to store Pu’er tea in professional warehouse and take some for drinking if needed.

Skillfully Use Tools to Control Environmental Temperature and Humidity

When the humidity is too high, we should skillfully use external means such as dehumidifier or air conditioner to dehumidify. To monitor indoor temperature and humidity at all times, a "thermohygrometer" is the best magic weapon. Generally, the humidity of stored tea should be controlled within 55%-65%. If the humidity exceeds 65%, it can be dehumidified by a dehumidifier or a dehumidifying air conditioner.

Desiccant is a good tool, but we should choose non-toxic and tasteless varieties. It can store tea in a closed space, place charcoal or bamboo charcoal in every corner of the room, absorb indoor water vapor, and dehumidify.

Close doors and windows on rainy days

When wet days come, you must remember to close the doors and windows in advance, especially in the morning and evening every day, close the windows facing south and southeast, isolate the moisture outside the windows. Bathroom, kitchen and other heavy vapor doors should also be closed at any time, in order to avoid vapor stretching to other parts of the room.

During wet season or "back to the south", do not open windows and ventilate easily even if there is occasional sunshine outdoors. Not only can this not alleviate the damp phenomenon, but also because of the large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor, the sudden opening of windows and ventilation will lead to the aggravation of water vapor condensation in the indoor floor and wall.
